Musically, i’ve almost always been open to anything but there are a few genres that I’ve had long-term love affairs with and I find myself perpetually drawn to them. And if you’ve followed this site for some time, you’ve probably have picked up on the fact that I love shoegazer rock. and I’ve been into it for quite some time.

With the 2009 release of their debut effort Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride, the Los Angeles-based Australian duo of Scott Van Ryper and Aimee Nash best known as The Black Ryder, quickly developed a reputation for recording a crushing and heavy shoegaze. “Santaria,” the first single off the band’s forthcoming sophomore effort,The Door Behind The Door is comprised of massive droning guitar chords which manage to sound simultaneously crushing and ethereal, magisterial-like drums and dreary vocal harmonies. Although the arrangement is sparse and allows room for each particular part to breathe, the track manages to bear a resemblance to The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Stone Roses – but with a subtle sense of menace lurking underneath the song’s beauty.
