Nepenthe, the third full-length release by the Brooklyn-based artist Julianna Bardwick. Upon the album’s release, Bardwick and her album have received critical praise from a number of media outlets including the likes of Pitchfork, the Fader, the Guardian, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, CMJ and several others across the globe. Recorded in Reykjavik, Iceland with the assistance of Alex Somers (of Sigur Ros, Jonsi and Jonsi and Alex fame), the material on the album is a delicately gorgeous ambient electronica – the sound manages to be spacious while containing a sense of longing. The songs sound as though they are arching ever so slowly heavenward …
Bardwick was recently on KEXP 90.3FM in Seattle where she performed a number of songs off Nepenthe, and it should give you a great sense of her live set, as she’s in the middle of a lengthy tour that includes a February 12 stop at Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral (which should be the perfect setting for the material.)
