Led by Sabrina and Tatiana, Nice, France-based outfit Divine Decadence can trace their origins back to 2020: While confined to the home studio as a result of COVID-19 quarantines and restrictions, the band had the opportunity to write and then refine songs, while gradually developing a sound that’s informed by film soundtracks and darkwave.
Back in 2022, the French band released their five-song, self-titled debut EP. which featured “Purple Dress,” a cinematic bit bit of post-punk/darkwave centered around moody atmospherics, Sabrina and Tatiana’s eerie harmonies, and swirling guitar textures that become stormier as the song progresses to its explosive coda while expressing a palpable, creeping dread.
Divine Decadence’s latest single “No Turning Back” is the first bit of new material from the Nice-based outfit since their self-titled debut EP. Built around arguably some of the biggest, most rousingly anthemic hooks they’ve ever written, the new single sees the French act further cementing a desperate and angrier take on darkwave, seemingly inspired by and capturing the overall feeling that shit is really quite bleak — and that our world is on the verge of collapse.
