Originally founded in Denton, TX, the members of Horse Thief moved to Oklahoma City to attend the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma. Upon their graduation, the band wound up signing up with the Flaming Lips management company, and shortly after they came to the attention of famed indie rock label Bella Union, who quickly signed the band.

“Devil,” the second single from the band’s forthcoming full-length debut, Fear In Bliss has an expansive, atmospheric and cinematic sound with earnest, plaintive vocals. In some way, their sound reminds me of Los Angeles‘ The Lonely Wild; however, without the leanings towards old Westerns. But much like the Los Angeles band, Horse Thief has a gorgeous, larger-than-life sound that manages to be intense and yet personal.

The appropriately fitting official video has people doing what looks like Satantic worship in the forest. It’s gorgeous shot and yet somewhat menacing.
