Record Store Day, as you may know celebrates the culture of the independently owned and operated record store by bringing together music fans, artists and thousands of independent record stores through live, in-store events and singles specifically released for the occasion and many times those singles include rare or unexpected collaborations – or unusual covers. The internationally known, purveyors of funk and soul Daptone Records released a 7 inch single which featured the “Screaming Eagle of Soul” himself, Charles Bradley being backed by two different Daptone acts, the fantastic Afrobeat band, Budos Band and the Bullets. Side B has Bradley being backed by the Bullets as they do an original number, “Ain’t It A Sin."

The track has Bradley proudly proclaiming that right now is his time to be loved the way he deserves and that the woman who isn’t treating him the way he needs will be seeing her way out the door. Sing it, Charles! Sing it! And what’s great about the song is that it feels incredibly loose, as though Charles and the band was just jamming some random afternoon, and came up with some of the funkiest shit you’ll hear in some time.
