Released last year through Wax Poetics Records, New York-based singer/songwriter Kendra Morris’ debut effort, Banshee was critically well-received with Morris being compared favorably to the links of Adele, Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse and interestingly enough, the legendary Janis JoplinMockingbird, her sophomore (and follow up) effort, which will be released on July 30th, is an interesting project because it consists of Morris doing soulful interpretations of songs such as Pink Floyd’s “Shine On You Crazy Diamond,” and the work of artists such as Soundgarden, David Bowie, the Rolling Stones, and Radiohead’s “Karma Police."

The interpretation here is naturally completely different – there’s still a world weariness at the heart of the song but instead of the anxiety and alienation of modern life, Morris version has more of a psychedelic feel.
