Russ Manning, a member of Twin Shadow, released one of my favorite albums last year, +1 EP under the moniker Rush Midnight. The material on that EP is reminiscent of the slickly produced, seductive, synth-based R&B you’d hear on WBLS’s Quiet Storm back in the 80s — with elements of reggae and dubstep. Although he’s embarking on a tour with Gold Fields throughout this month and October – it’ll include stops in El Paso, TX; Dallas, TX; Austin, TX; San Antonio, TX; Houston, TX; New Orleans, LA; Miami, FL; Orlando, FL; Santos Party House on October 3rd, and several others – he did release this new single, “Say It Again.”
The new single shows a somewhat subtle change in sonic direction. Where his previously released material had employed the use of reggae riddim, “Say It Again” is much more percussive and manages to be along the lines of smooth as Makers Mark neat-like soul, with a little bit of throbbing funk.
