Still Corners, the duo of songwriter Greg Hughes and vocalist Tessa Murray released their 2010 debut, Creatures of an Hour to generally favorably critical reviews – NMEand Drowned in Sound in particular offered praise of Creatures. The band has spent the past two years writing and recording the material that comprised the band’s forthcoming sophomore effort, Strange Pleasures which Sub Pop Records will be releasing on May 7th. From the single, “Berlin Lovers” it’s obvious that the new effort will be a change in sonic direction – although still maintaining a dreamy quality, the band turns to the synth pop of the 80s. When you listen to “Berlin Lovers” you may think of New Order, Kraftwerk (because of the songs sparseness) and bands of that ilk as being fair comparisons.
