Swedish DJ and producer DJ Devastate has developed a reputation for his reinterpretation of work by the likes of Amy Winehouse and the Roots. With keyboardist, fusion artist and owner of Analog Sweden, Fredrik Segerfalk, DJ Devastate turns Anthony Hamilton’s “Coming From Where I’m From,” off his Coming From Where I’m From, from a mostly piano accompanied song to a slickly atmospheric, soulful funk track – the piano is replaced by synth and keyboards and horns. Although Hamilton is part of the neo soul generation, a generation of artists known for their candid, conscious lyrics, the remix ties his work back to the soul artists of the 70s – if anything the sense of storytelling is the same.
