The Black Constellation art collective conceived a thirteen part multi-disciplinary exhibit in 2010, dedicated to science fiction writer Octavia E. Butler. This short film, (Sparkles) … Recollections of the Wraith, which was conceived, written and directed by The Black Constellation collaborator and visual artist Maikoiyo Alley-Barnes  and produced by photographer, Kyle Johnson features music by Shabazz Palaces, and was shot in several locales in Washington State. It’s a fitting end to the project for several reasons …

The short film manages to create the sensory overload of being in the heart of pristine nature during the beginning sequence; but by the time the sun sets in the film, there’s a sense of the surreal, mixed with that of an acid trip – people come in and out of focus, move in slow motion and so on. It’s stunningly shot film that will have you buzzing. But perhaps more important, the film fits the music so well, that it could be an informally official music video.
