The Echo Friendly consist of the off and on couple Jake Rabinbach (guitar and vocals) and Shannon Esper (vocals). Their debut full-length effort is naturally inspired by their relationship, as the material chronicles their own complicated and often ambiguous relationship – the sort of friendship fraught with tension and second-guessing over how difficult it can seem to be when you try to be close to someone with whom you used to be much closer. The album’s first single “Panic” is not only heavily inspired by their own relationship, it’s obviously inspired by 90s alternative rock. And much like the alt rock of the 90s the song manages to mesh sun-bleached guitars with mournful vocals to create a sound that feels nostalgic and wistful.
