The founding members of the Brooklyn-based blogosphere sensation Coastgaard, Brian Dalessandro (drums and vocals) and Matt Miller (lead vocals and guitars) first began playing together in Sons of Sons back in 2009. Once Sons of Sons split up, Dalessandro and Miller recruited Sean Glassman (guitar, keys, vocals) to join the band in 2011. And Paolo Codega (bass and vocals) joined in early 2012 to complete and flesh out the band’s sound.

The band’s self-titled debut effort was released in May and as I’ve previously mentioned, the band has gained quite a bit of attention across the blogosphere – thanks in part to countless live shows across town in venues such as the Cameo Gallery, Glasslands Gallery, Webster Hall, and the Northside Festival. “Beach 3 (Ocean Blue),” the latest single off the album has gained even more attention as it recently rose to #64 on CMJ’s radio charts, MTV U called them “Required Listening” and The Deli Magazine NY has praised them on a number of occasions…

In some way, Coastgaard’s sound is reminiscent of Vampire Weekend in the sense that the song feels finely and carefully crafted with a hint of winsome nostalgia. And it has a much needed blast of summer, as the temperatures get colder. But just as important, the song is pretty fucking catchy.
