The members of the Austin, TX-based band Ghetto Ghouls have been writing, recording and playing together in various bands since they were 14, and over the years they’ve become one of Austin’s best known punk bands – and the town’s best kept secrets.
However, the April 8 release of their self-titled debut through Monofonus Records may change all that. Reportedly recorded in four hours, the material on the album has a sloppy, drunken, furious urgency that feels exhilarating. In some way, it reminds me a little bit of Cerebral Ballzy but noisier and messier as you’ll hear on “Peepshow,” the first single off the forthcoming album.
