The Montreal, QC-based Rishi Dihr and his band Elephant Stone  released their self-titled, sophomore effort through Hidden Pony Records last year, and the album deftly used elements of traditional Eastern songwriting and instrumentation with Western songwriting and instrumentation to create a densely buzzing and hypnotic drone – in particular, the sitar has taken a prominent role, and it adds quite a bit of nuance when paired with guitar…

The band will be releasing the follow up to their self-titled sophomore effort, Three Poisons on August 26, and to mark the announcement of their forthcoming effort, Elephant Stone released the first single form the album, album title track, “Three Poisons.”  And the new single reflects a change of sonic direction for the band – starting out with chiming gongs, sonically, the track manages to be slightly airier and dreamier than their previous releases. However, the drone that they’ve long been known for is still as insistent and as persistent as ever but the track manages to twist and turn about, while being propelled forward with even more insistent drums. It kind of evokes the sense of the thoughts and sensations of someone who just realized that they’ve been poisoned and no one is around to help them.
