The South London-based vocalist Ego Ella May has developed a reputation for an effortlessly and easy-going vocal style that uncannily channels Erykah Badu. Her latest single, “How Far” produced by Wu-Lu and Reiss G features a minimalist production comprised of swirling and undulating electronics and skittering percussion that gives Ego Ella May’s arrestingly coy vocals room to casually dart and float through he mix. In fact, what drew me to the song was the fact that the production forces you to stop, slow down and admire the artist’s vocals.
