The Sunderland, UK-based multi-instrumentalist Ian Black is the creative mastermind of SLUG, a recording project that’s inspired by Led Zeppelin, Parliament Funkadelic, a heady and playful sense of experimentation, and a stint as Field Music’s touring bassist. And on “Running To Get Past You,” the first single from Black’s debut effort, RIPE, you’ll hear a song comprised of a buzzing, grimy bass line, shimmering guitar, tribal drumming paired with funk backbeats and dreamily sung vocals in a trippy, psychedelic stew that could have been released in 1968 or yesterday.
