We Are The Brave, the the Sydney, Australia-based pop sensation formed when singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jess Chalker began to collaborate with underground hip-hop producer and multi-instrumentalist Ox Why. The duo bonded over their shared love of 70s soft rock, 80s pop, 90s sci-fi, trip hop and indie electro pop and from those shared loves they were inspired to craft a sound that re-imagined both their shared loves and their influences.
The duo’s self-releaed EP Noctua gained both domestic and international acclaim thanks to singles “All Good Things Must Come To An End“ and ”Sparrow“ — both of which got love from both MTV Iggy and MTV Buzzworthy. And continuing on the duo’s early success, they enlisted the help of producers such as Rich Morel, Nightriders, Culture Fires, the Dualists and Gnome to remix their biggest song to date “Sparrow” for their Sparrow EP (The Remixes).
Rich Morel’s Hot Sauce Mix brings Chalker’s seductive vocals to the forefront and pairs them with sinuous and gently pulsating synth and guitar, throbbing drums and hot flashes of synth. And on a certain level the remix bears a dim — and I mean very dim — resemblance to Stevie Nicks’ “Stand Back” for me.
The official video manages to capture the dark and very seductive nature of the song as it takes the viewer towards the seedy underworld that often comprises nightlife.
