With the release of their first three albums, the Raleigh, NC-based Gray Young have developed a reputation for material that’s been described as oceanic – there’s a palpable push and pull in the material, as though it’s a riptide off the ocean. But it’s also incredibly anthemic. So far, with the first two singles off the band’s latest album Bonfire – “Firekit” is the second and latest single – their material reminds me a lot of The Unforgettable Fire-era U2. In other words, it has an eerily beautiful atmospheric feel … and it helps that the guitars are played through reverb and delay pedal.
