With the release of their first two albums, and several singles through a variety of indie labels, the Vancouver, BC-based White Lung has received quite a bit of love and attention across the blogosphere for a sound that’s relentless and punishing.

As the band announced that they signed with Domino Recording Company, they released the official video for “Drown With The Monster,” the first single and album title track off the band’s forthcoming third album, Drown With The Monster. And holy shit, this song kicks ass.

Interestingly, vocalist Mish Way has publicly mentioned that “Drown With The Monster” is heavily inspired by pieces by Andrea Mary Marshall in The New Inquiry – in particular, one quote about toxic women: “Toxic women are toxic to themselves. They are Tragic Heroines who blow dry their own wounds. i aspire to be different.” Way has said that this song is about kicking habits and running away with a new distraction. But instead of blow drying her wounds, she’d rather drown with the monster than blow dry her wounds.
