Chappo’s  forthcoming sophomore effort, Future Former Self will see a May release and although the effort is the follow up to the band’s 2012 debut, Moonwater, which included the iPod commercial-featured single “Come Home,” the sophomore album is a sonic and thematic departure. Future Former Self is a concept album with a very specific narrative — the songs follow one man, Rene Cogitio on a journey to a black hole. Thematically, the material manages to tackle both the abstract notion of time (as we know it), and its fleeing nature. In fact, throughout the album the band explores the idea that in almost any given moment, the future and past can cave in on themselves, leaving us with an inexplicably surreal reality where one is confronted with his “future former self.” What would your say if you encountered your own future former self? 

The first single, “I Don’t Need the Sun” was an airy and obviously psychedelic (considering the subject matter) that bore a resemblance to  to Phenomenal Handclap Band, Vampire Weekend and Oracular Spectacular-era MGMT. “i’m Not Ready,” the latest single off the album bears a resemblance to the Ziggy Stardust-era David Bowie sound but with a nervous, anxiousness underneath it all.
