Unless you’ve emerged from a cave or spent the past few years adhering to a vow of silence at a monastery or a nunnery, you know that today is Election Day.
If you’re eligible to vote and you haven’t yet and you live in New York City, check out NYCVotes.org for your polling place, what’s on the ballot and more. If you’re not in NYC, your area should have a similar website. Spend some time researching the candidates, their positions and the ballot measures. And then, get out there and vote.
Democracy ain’t a spectator sport y’all. You have to keep as informed as you can. It means writing, tweeting and calling your local officials, and showing up to their town halls. It means getting others out there to vote. Sometimes it means hitting the streets and protesting. For some of us, it means running for office.
We can’t take our rights tor granted y’all. Please vote! Elections have generational consequences — especially locally. Politics are local and personal. That’s right y’all. Stakes is high.
Many of us will be spending the bulk of our days pushing and fighting to get it right. There’s a lot of work to do. And it’s all hands on deck. So, vote like your life and the lives of the most vulnerable people of your life are on the line. Make your voice heard. Let’s kick the fascists, Nazis and oligarchs out of office — forever.
Remember if you’re an American citizen, it is your constitutional right to vote. Don’t be scared. Don’t let these assholes intimidate you from your rights and your civic duty to slap the shit out of fascists in the ballot box and everywhere else. And if you’re in line to vote, stay on that line.
And if you’re not registered — well, what the fuck is wrong with you? Register today. You can make your voice heard in the next election.
