I’ve mentioned it many times before but soul music has seen something of a renaissance over the past decade with contemporary groups across the world releasing new, original soul music – in particular, acts like Charles Bradley; G.E.D Soul Records artists such as Derobert and the Half Truths, the Sky Hi Funk Band and others; Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings; the Right Now; JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound. And across the pond we  have heard of “Northern Soul” artists such as Amy Winehouse, Adele, Joss Stone, and Alice Russell.

Alice Russell’s latest effort, To Dust recently saw it’s Stateside release through Tru Thoughts/Caroline Records, and it’s an impressive effort. Plain and simple: the girl can sing. Check out this live footage of Russell performing “Heartbreaker, Part 2,” during last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live – I think it’ll give you a great sense of what to expect during her Stateside tour, which will include a stop at Le Poisson Rouge on Mother’s Day.
