Led by the Montreal, QC-based Rishi Dihr, Elephant Stone released their self-titeld, sophomore effort through Hidden Pony Records earlier this year. “Heavy Moon,” one of the singles off the latest album and the song, much like the rest of the material on the album deftly uses elements of Eastern songwriting and instrumentation along with Western songwriting and instrumentation to help create a dense and trippy drone – you’ll actually hear a subtle among of sitar, used to add a buzz to the sound.

After listening to the track, I wasn’t surprised to discover that Dihr had played sitar for the Soundtrack of Our Lives, the Black Angels (with whom he also played bass), among others. I say this because sonically, this track reminds me of Directions to See a Ghost-era Black Angels.

You can catch the band on their summer-long American tour which include stops in Burlington, VT; Philadelphia, PA; the Mercury Lounge on August 10th; Washington, DC; Asheville, NC; Nashville, TN; and others.
