As I’ve mentioned on a number of occasions through this site and my various social media accounts, this summer has been an extraordinarily busy in the JOVM world and while it may finally feel like Autumn here in NYC, I’m still catching up on a number of things from this past summer, including Rocksteady Crew‘s 40th Anniversary show at SummerStage Rumsey Playfield in Central Park. Now, as a blogger and a hip hop head, the annual Rocksteady Crew show is one of the highlights of the concert going year; in fact, over the past handful of years, the show has some incredible lineups that have rivaled that of some of the bigger music festivals in town — in particular, Onyx, Das EFX, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Whodini, Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane, Craig G, Kool G. Rap, DMC, Main Source, Doug E. Fresh, Chris Rivers, DJ Red Alert, M.O.P. and others have all performed within the last handle of years. Sadly, according to Crazy Legs, the legendary founding member of the B-Boy crew, the 40th anniversary show would be the last one, as he was set to prepare for a new event, which will focus on showcasing and mentoring up-and-coming talent.
The last Rocksteady Crew show featured a rather diverse lineup of hip-hop acts featuring up-and-comers Haddy Racks and Napoleon da Legend, a tribute to Mobb Deep‘s Prodigy featuring his bandmate Havoc, the legendary MC Lyte, MC Eiht with DJ Premier and others. Check out some photos from the show below.
