Mauro Remiddi, a.k.a. Porcelain Raft’s forthcoming sophomore effort, Permanent Signal which will see an August 20th release through Secretly Canadian Records is a something of a sonic departure for the now-Brooklyn based artist. The album’s second single “The Way Out” was heavily inspired by Remiddi’s observations of nature overtaking the urban environment as he was walking home as Superstorm Sandy was nearing landfall. With that in mind, it should be no surprise that the song manages to sound hazy and sprawlingly cinematic and yet possessing an emotional immediacy that’s been consistent throughout his work. In this song there’s a sense of awe, fear, confusion and boredom as the speaker notes that New York City has been shut down, that’s there’s no place to go – and yet there’s always nature.
