John Jagos is a Brooklyn-based electronic musician and producer, and his solo recording project, Brothertiger can trace its origins to 2009. As a sophomore at Ohio State University, Jagos released his debut EP, Vision Tunnels to critical praise from the likes of No Fear of Pop and Pitchfork. And as a result, Jagos went on to write, record and then release his full-length debut, Golden Years, which was released through Mush Records in 2012. That effort was quickly followed up by his sophomore effort, Future Splendors, which was not only a change in sonic direction, as the material was reportedly darker, it was the first effort that Jagos supported with a tour.
Since then, Jagos has been busily working on his forthcoming, third, full-length effort, Out of Touch, which is slated for release later this year. Reportedly, the album is informed by Jagos’ desire to create an auditory journey through a metaphorical jungle of emotional states — tribulation, despair, fatigue, serenity, joy and tranquility. Interestingly, the album’s first single, album title track “Out of Touch” is a breezy bit of synth pop comprised of cascading sheets of shimmering synths, a funky bass line, Jagos plaintive and ethereal vocals, brief yet warm blasts of guitar to craft a pop song that manages to simultaneously sound as though it were recorded and released in 1984, as much as it also manages to channel the breezy yet mournful sound of Washed Out.
Jagos will be embarking on a fall tour, opening for Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Jr., who recently renamed themselves Jr. Jr. next month. Check out tour dates below.
