New Audio: Suffolk UK-based Frett’s Painterly New Single “Drop of Starch”

Frett are a rather mysterious, Suffolk, UK-based electronic production duo, who have started to receive attention in their native Suffolk and across the UK for a sound that draws from the likes of Jai Paul, The Acid, Bonobo, Chet Faker, Flume, and to my ears, Beacon.

The duo’s latest single “Drop of Starch” was reportedly inspired by a night of the duo drinking a lot of red wine, some late night scribblings and musical jottings of various riffs layered on a loop pedal — and in fact, the song begins with a subtle layerings of synth guitar, followed by a sparse yet propulsive beat and falsetto vocals. Much like the duo’s influences, the song manages to be sleekly minimalist, brooding, and subtly sensual but it possesses a painterly attention to sharing and texture, as each layer builds upon each other.
