ACES, a Brooklyn-based electro pop duo comprised of Russ Flynn and Alexandra Stewart. The Brooklyn-based duo of Flynn and Stewart have quickly captured the attention of the blogosphere with a sound that pairs Flynn’s shimmering and atmospheric production with Stewart’s tender and breathy vocals, and soaring, anthemic hooks to create material that sounds both remarkably contemporary and as though it could have been released in 1982.
Now, over the past month you may have come across a couple of posts about the duo’s first two singles “What Do You Think They’ll Say About Me,” a song that possessed an aching vulnerability and longing and “I’m Already Gone” an R&B leaning track that’s one part old-fashioned torch song, and one part wishful and tender farewell.
The trio’s third and latest single “Find Me Out” will cement Flynn and Stewart’s reputation for crafting spectral, slow-burning Quiet Storm R&B inspired pop — in particular, the new single sounds as though it were subtly nodding to Prince‘s “Little Red Corvette” (one of my favorite Prince songs, by the way) “When Doves Cry” and “Darling Nicki,” Sade and others. However, the core of the song seems to be a narrator who has been deceitful and treacherous to someone close to her — and as a result, there’s a sense of remorse over being found out.
The recently released official video follows a woman entering a home to play poker with a couple of friend and spliced with footage of the duo of Stewart and Flynn performing the song in a bedroom. Here the sense of deceit and treachery is placed around cheating — in terms of a game and being caught.
