New Video: Lunar Twin Shares Broodingly Cinematic “Disappear in the Earth”

Lunar Twin — Bryce Boudreau and Chris Murphy — is a critically acclaimed duo and a JOVM mainstay act, who have established a sound that fuses dream pop and darkwave with atmospheric rock, electronic textures and cinematic songwriting.

The JOVM mainstays’ fifth album, Night Jaguar will be released in September through on vinyl and CD with a digital release to follow. The forthcoming album’s first single “Disappear into the Earth” is a sleek and brooding tune, featuring glistening synth arpeggios, skittering and off-kilter percussive beats paired with Boudreau’s breathy baritone. Sonically recalling Mark Lanegan’s later work, and serving as a bit of change in musical direction, the new single tells a visceral story of a forced exile and the long, uncertain and uneasy journey in search of survival with a narrator, who wanders alone on foot through vast, empty deserts and freezing cold mountains.

“It’s a story as old as the earth and it’s also a story of this very moment,” Lunar Twin’s Bryce Boudreau explains. “It’s about searching alone through the darkness, crossing a desert of the soul.”

Directed by Peto, Yucatán, Mexico-born and based film student and cinematographer Robert Naal, the gorgeous shot video for “Disappear into the Earth” captures both the beauty of Mexico, its culture and its people while showcasing the same perilous journey across the border his uncles have undertaken at various points. The video further emphasizes the song’s themes of exile, migration and resilience with a sense of deep empathy for those who have made the same journey. “It’s an intense and beautiful journey. I really love how Roberto interpreted our song,” the duo’s Chris Murphy says.
