Nashville, TN-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jas Patrick can trace the origins of his music career to when he was a small child — at four, Patrick had started playing drums and by the time, he was 18 he was hitting the road and playing gigs. Over the years, Patrick has taken the DIY ethos to heart as he currently runs his own label Tiny Lion Records with his wife but perhaps more important, the Nashville-based has developed a reputation for an earthy and bluesy sound that channels both old school Southern rock, blues and old-school power chord-based rock.
Interestingly, Patrick’s latest effort Inky Olive draws from the Southern rock, blues and old-school power chord-based rock that has won him attention and endorsement deals but with a subtle nod to the British rock as you’ll hear on his bluesy and scorching new single “Harpy,” a single which sounds a though it channels a few contemporary artists including Ben Harper, Robert Randolph, and others. And what makes it amazing is that Patrick plays every instrument on the song — and it possesses a bluesy, shuffling stomp that should sound familiar if you know the blues and blues-inspired rock.
The recently released music video is disturbingly and nightmarishly surreal — in a similar fashion to Tom Petty’s “Don’t Come Around Here No More” — as the video follows an amputation that’s watched by an unimpressed audience who’s more concerned about drinking cocktails than the actual procedure. And the video ends with the patient waking up! Whoa.
