The Christchurch, New Zealand-based duo of Steven Marr and Indira Force formed Doprah back in 2012 and in their relatively short history together, they have released a handful of singles to critical acclaim, two of which landed at number 1 on their homeland’s Alternative Chart. And they opened for indie pop sensation Lorde’s post-Grammy Awards homecoming show in Auckland

“San Pedro” is the first single (and video) off the band’s forthcoming self-titled EP, slated for a June 9 release through Arch Hill Records. Full of swirling electronics, ringing percussion and Force’s cooed vocals, “San Pedro” manages to be both ethereal and cosmic, and yet it possesses a malevolent, anxious air similar to the trip hop of Portishead and the Sneaker Pimps

The official video for the single was released the other day and is full of surreal imagery, including a sequence that resembles a baptism but with a malevolent, evil air – it’s strangely fitting and mood setting.
