The duo of Tui Mamaki and Monsiuer E. formed Mamaku over their shared French New Zealand heritage and their passion for music and travel. And across their native New Zealand, they have developed a reputation for a sound that employs elements of chanson, dub, electronica, hip hop and poetry – and lately, the duo has been gaining some exposure across the blogosphere, including here. 

“Mardi Gras,” the first single from Twigs of Gold possessed a subtle, jazzy swing that gave the song an airy yet sultry seductiveness that belies it’s production of sparse, atmospheric beats. However, their latest single (and video) “Mon Ami” bears a resemblance to Portishead in it’s slow-burning urgency – but much like the duo’s first single, the track is incredibly sensual and sounds very much like a come on.
