There’s been a recent (and developing) trend of several electronic dance music artists experimenting with some degree of live instrumentation and analog recording methods; after all, both live instrumentation and analog recording methods add an interesting dynamic and an interesting level of texture to the sound. Detroit, MI-based producer (and saxophonist) GRiZ continues that trend with smoothed out beats, guitar and saxophone squawk that you’ll hear on his latest single off Rebel Era, “Hard Times" – and it’s done in a way that makes the material sound both contemporary and as though it could have been released in 1985 or so.
