Throwback: The Roots “I Am a Slave”

Happy Juneteenth, y’all!

I was thinking about what I should post today for the occasion. And then, I thought about The Roots doing the Schoolhouse Rock!-like telling of the history of Juneteenth for Black-ish‘s fourth season opener. So for anyone, who’s curious about the history of the holiday — or why it should be celebrated, watch.

Also, let this be a reminder that this country still hasn’t lived up to its ideals. There’s still a lot of work to be done.
