YOKOTA is a somewhat mysterious, up-and-coming Sydney, Australia-based singer/songwriter and producer, who recently (and quietly) released her debut single “Blindside,” and the single, which posses elements of swing-period jazz, brass band jazz, hip-hop, early soul and pop is a densely layered, propulsive and infectious pop confection that’s not just a marvel of modern production but a coquettish and summery blast. Simply put, the song is fun.
As the Australian artist mentions in press notes, she’s currently recording material that will comprise a debut EP that’s slated to be released later on this year. Based on “Blindside,” I’m intrigued by YOKOTA’s sound and looking forward to the EP.
