Brooklyn-based electronica artist Morgan Neiman writes, records and performs under the moniker of Ducky. Earlier this year, the “Air” Single Package and the “U Turn Me Up” Single Package were released to critical praise from the likes of Magnetic, Paper, and the blogosphere — including this site.
Her latest single package, “Two Over Ten” is the follow up to both single packages, and it represents a subtle change in sonic direction — Neiman’s vocals are much more vulnerable and seductive, as she coos and croons over eerily sparse, skittering beats. The song’s title s inspired by a Great Depression reference — the symbol 2/10 apparently meant “there are thieves about!”; however, lyrically, the song as Neiman explained in an interview “is about the fight with something or someone coming after a part of yourself, and the feeling of giving in.”
Natasha Kmeto was enlisted to remix “Two Over Ten,” and although Kmeto has kept the icily sparse minimalist feel, she’s added a shimmering, almost cosmic house music-inspired synths which pulsate throughout the mix.
