Comprised of Cooper Gillespie (vocals, bass) and Greg Gordon (drums and sequences), the Los Angeles, CA-based duo of Ultra Violent Rays have received attention across the blogosphere for a sound that channels Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division and Portishead. The duo’s latest single “Vegas” is a subtle refinement of the sound that first caught the attention of the blogosphere – and in particular, JOVM – as the addition of swirling electronics and drum programming gives a very familiar, noir-like sound a modern twist. And interestingly enough, the song may arguably be their most direct and cinematic track they’ve released to date.

The recently released official video for the song involves a casino robbery and a twisting and turning tale of double crossing and violence, which is extremely fitting for a such a darkly, seductive song.
