Comprised of John Cep (guitar, bass, vocals, drums and production), Kim Field (bass, vocals) and rotating live drummers EJ DeCoske and Johnny Lancia, the Northeastern Pennsylvania-based duo of The Stargazer Lilies can trace their origins to the demise of Cep and Field’s previous project, Soundpool. Although Soundpool had achieved some success as they toured with the likes of Chapterhouse, Ulrich Schnauss, A Place to Bury Strangers, School of Seven Bells, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Tobacco and others, the Stargazer Liles project was inspired by a change of sonic direction.
In some way, the new project followed the trio’s desire to strip their sound down to the essential. And album title track, “We Are the Dreamers” off the trio’s debut effort, We Are the Dreamers has a sound that possesses a gauzy and ethereal nature but underlying it is a subtly muscular forcefulness – it drifts up above the surface like smoke curling up walls and ceilings before gently dissipating
Interestingly, the official video for “We Are the Dreamers” was released just as the band announced a Spring tour across the Midwest and West Coast that includes dates with Tobacco. The video features Cep and Fields shot in grainy, old-timey film – first at a distance and gradually close up, as a pair of star-crossed lovers on a stroll on an abandoned suburban street. It’s fittingly eerie.
