Elephant Stone, led by Rishi Dihr, a renowned sitar player, released their self-titled, sophomore effort through Hidden Pony Records last year, and the material on the album used elements of traditional Eastern instrumentation with Western songwriting and instrumentation to create a densely buzzing and hypnotic drone that sounded both contemporary and decidedly influenced by the 1960s psychedelia.

The Montreal-based band released their third album, Three Poisons a few months ago and from the release of the album’s first few singles, it was made obvious that the band’s material had gone through a change of sonic direction that only subtly retained some elements of the sound that initially captured attention across the blogosphere. Certainly, “Knock You From Yr Mountain” manages to sound much more inspired by the likes of The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd – thanks to the backing vocals throughout; however, with four-on-the floor drumming and a deep and percussive bass line, the song actually is more of a modern take on classic rock. Interestingly, Dihr’s gorgeous sitar playing comes out in brief bursts at the hook to retain the trippy Eastern vibe.

The official video for the song manages to evoke the feel of classic crime and police procedurals with a mix of psychedelic visuals – because after all, strange things happen in the desert, right?
