Founded by producers Eugene Cho and Dan Balis and fronted by the captivating Adeline Michele, the 17 member New York-based act Escort have won accolades and praise from the likes of Pitchfork and the New York Times, and got asses moving in clubs across the city, thanks in part to a sound that owes a great debt to disco, funk and soul. In some way, you have to think of the slickly produced sound of Donna Summer, if she were played cabaret style. Yeah, seriously.
Their newest single “Cabaret” manages to adeptly mesh house music with the decadence and pulsating sensuality of disco, giving disco a modern upgrade. I caught them live at their first annual Escort Halloween Ball with St. Lucia a little while back, and it was one of the best shows I saw that year – Adeline Michele is a force all by herself, and the band can fucking play.
