If you’ve been frequenting JOVM for the better part of the past year, you would probably be familiar with Scott Melker, a New York-based producer, DJ and electronic music artist, who has spent the bulk of his career recording and performing under the moniker, The Melker Project. And throughout an almost 20 year career, Melker has shared stages with some of the world’s most beloved artists and DJs including DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ AM, Public Enemy, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh, Kanye West, Wu-Tang Clan, Q-Tip. Ne-Yo. T.I. and others thanks to the fact that Melker has a reputation for a possessing a wide-ranging, crowd-pleasing aesthetic and incredible skills on the 1s and 2s.

Interestingly, in the same period that you may have come cross Melker, the New York-based DJ, producer and artist has received attention across the blogosphere for an incredible mashup tribute series in which Melker effortlessly mixed the work of beloved and commercially successful pop artists he had long admired with contemporary hip-hop – in a fashion that often brings comparisons to the likes of Girl Talk and others. In other words, Melker’s work manages to be a marvel of modern (and extremely slick) production techniques; however, unlike his contemporaries Melker mash up work was much more deliberate and carefully thought out, as he spent time re-recording major parts of the material he initially was going to mash up.

It had been some time since Melker had released original material. And as Melker explains in press notes “’No No Way’ is a track that I started almost two years ago. I chopped up the vocal sample, trapped it out, and put it on my to-do list to finish. When I met the young geniuses from Glow Team, I sent the track over and let them run with it.” Reportedly, after a few weeks both artists realized that they had something special – and in fact, the single deftly mixes the styles of both artists in a way that sounds like a thorough mind-melding as the song is comprised of a three-note melody created by a striking arpeggio, a ridiculous series of bass drops, huge room rocking drum ‘n’ bass and sound effects, punctuated by a glitchy vocal. It’s the sort of song you want to pump your fist to, drink too much to, and act like an idiot to while in the club – or the sort of song you’d play to pump yourself up just before you entered the club. Either way, it’s fun as hell and appropriate for whenever you need to turnt up.
