Live Concert Photography: Joanna Teters at The Standard East Rooftop 8/20/18

Earlier this year, I caught 25 year-old, Boston, MA-born, Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Joanna Teters at The Mercury Lounge, and as you may recall, Teters first caught the attention of the blogosphere as the frontwoman of soul octet Mad Satta, as well as acts like Lowtone Society, iLa Mawana and others; however, over the past couple of years, Teters went solo — and her long-awaited solo debut, Warmer When It Rains was written between 2012 and 2017. The album reflects her development and growth as a woman and songwriter, while bridging the creative gap between her stint with Mad Satta and as a solo artist and collaborator in NYC’s R&B, soul, reggae and dance music scenes.

Adding to a very busy year, Teters released the Back to Brooklyn EP earlier this summer, and naturally, the Boston-born, Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter has been playing shows across town and elsewhere to support both of her efforts. Teters with a backing band recently played an intimate show at The Standard East Village‘s Rooftop and much like her Mercury Lounge show earlier this year, I realized I was watching a self-assured woman who can be effortlessly soulful; however, this set featured material that for the most part was a bit more straightforward — hewing closer to pop and contemporary R&B. Check out some photos from the set below.
