Earlier this month, I caught acclaimed Paris-based pop act L’Imperatrice — founder Charles de Boisseguin (keys), Hagni Gown (keys), David Gaugué (bass), Achille Trocellier (guitar), Tom Daveau (drums) and Flore Benguigui (vocals) — play a headlining, sold-out show at Brooklyn Steel. The set featured songs from last year’s excellent Taku Tsubo, which coincidentally was one of my favorite albums of the year, as well as a ton of previously released material.
There’s something about dancing with 1,600 of your friends to a band playing a funky groove that’s truly special — and what I desperately needed.
As always, photos from one of the best sets I’ve caught this year are below.
