New Video: Miami-based Production duo GTA Teams Up With Paul Wall and Clyde Carson

Comprised of Julio Mejia and Matt Toth, the Miami, FL-based production duo GTA have developed a reputation for a genre defying sound that caught the attention of renowned producers Laidback Luke, Diplo, and A-Trak. And as a result of that initial attention, the duo had a quickly growing national and international profile as they’ve opened for Rihanna during her five-month Diamonds world tour, opened for EDM superstars Tiesto and Calvin Harris in the UK, and have played at several of this country’s largest and most popular festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Electric Daisy Carnival.

Their Death to Genres, Vol. 1 EP and Death to Genres Remix EP were released earlier this year, along with collaborations with Flosstradamus, Lil’ Jon, and Martin Solveig, and as you can imagine the duo’s profile has expanded even larger within EDM circles. In fact, the duo have embarked on an extensive headlining national tour with K Camp and electronic DJs/producers Sweater Beats and Wax Motif — and it includes a NYC area stop later this month. (Check out the remaining tour dates below.)

EP single “Smokers Unite” is a collaboration between the Miami-based production duo, Houston-based emcee Paul Wall and Oakland-based emcee Clyde Carson, and the track features the emcees rhyming over an eerie and forceful production consisting of sparse, twinkling keys, skittering drum programming, distorted vocal samples, ominously swirling electronics, woofer and tweeter rocking bass and the enormous bass drops of EDM. Sonically, the song clearly pairs trap hop, EDM and hip-hop in a way that’s familiar and yet sounds as though it could rock a sweaty nightclub or a large stadium.
