Earlier this year, I wrote about the Seattle-based quartet Versing, which is comprised of Daniel Salas, Graham Baker, Kirby Lochner and Max Keyes, and as you may recall the act’s highly-anticipated full-length debut 1000 through Hardly Art Records. Now, as you may recall the woozy album single “Offering” managed to remind me of Nirvana’s “Radio Friendly Unit Shifter,” and Thee Oh Sees, all while being “a fantastical song about traveling through a mystical portal to stop an encroaching force of evil, and the feedback is like the whirring sound the portal makes. Really it’s about making the ultimate sacrifice for the benefit of others, and thinking about what you’d want to be remembered for after you die.”
“Renew” 1000‘s latest single is centered around punchy and angular guitars, a propulsive rhythm section and a rousingly anthemic hook — and while sounded indebted to classic post-punk, the song as the band’s Daniel Salas explains is about “taking time to care for yourself — even when things are all weird and fucked up.”
Directed by Claire Buss, the 360º video allows the viewer to immerse themselves in a surreal subterranean warehouse where nothing makes sense and every character within the warehouse is absolutely insane — and yet there’s a dark sense of humor to the proceedings.
Versing will be hitting the the road to support their full-length debut and the tour will include a July 3, 2019 stop at Elsewhere. Check out the tour dates below.
