Led by primary songwriter and creative mastermind Rueben Bullock and featuring multi-insturmetnalist and vocalists Shea Alain, Brock Geiger, Ian Jarvis and Dino Soares, the Calgary, Alberta, Canada-based indie folk act Rueben and the Dark have quickly developed a reputation for crafting emotive and anthemic, soul-tinged folk primarily driven by dark, introspective lyrics that explore the duality of misery and joy. And with the release of their Chris Hayden-produced full-length debut, Funeral Sky, the band quickly emerged as one of Western Canada’s best, up-and-coming bands.
The band’s highly-anticipated sophomore album Arms of a Dream was released earlier this year through Arts & Crafts Records, and the material finds Bullock working outside of his comfort zone both lyrically and musically with the album thematically being an exploration of the inversion of imagination and reality in dreams. Adding to a growing profile, the band had tracks featured in an HBO promo, the 2017 major motion picture The Glass Castle, CW’s The Originals and Showtime‘s Ray Donovan, they’ve made a number of festival appearances, including at Sasquatch, Austin City Limits, Osheaga, Field Trip and others, and they’ve toured with Vance Joy, The Strumbellas, Boy & Bear, The Paper Kites and others.

Arms of a Dream‘s latest single, debuted at #2 on the Adult Alternative charts, and that shouldn’t be surprising as the song is centered around a motorik-like groove, shimmering guitar chords and a soaring hook reminiscent of
U2 and
A Rush of Blood to the Head-era
Coldplay paired with achingly earnest lyrics. Directed by the band’s Rueben Bullock, who’s also a semi-professional skateboarder, the video follows Bullock as he fulfills a childhood dream — by going on a skating expedition in beautiful
Barcelona, Spain. And throughout the video, there’s small and beautiful snippets of everyday life around him: Bullock skating past a commuter, or exchanging a smile and a hello with an elderly lady, catching young kids, who smile happily at the camera, taking pictures, hanging out with friends and shredding. It’s gorgeous and timeless in its every day simplicity — and while you know it’s Barcelona, the video could have taken place in countless other places across the world.
On the heels of a successful run of US tour dates, the Calgary-based indie act have announced a series of North American dates, which includes two Stateside dates —
Chicago and
