New Video: The Lush and Dream-like Visuals for Louie Louie’s Latest “I Want to Dance With You”

Louie Louie- I Want to Dance With You from Upland Film Co. on Vimeo.

If you’ve been frequenting this site over the past say 5 months or so, you’ve likely come across a couple of posts on the Philadelphia, PA-based quartet Louie Louie, an act that captured my attention with the release of “After Me,” a song that possessed a lovelorn vulnerability and ache while nodding heavily towards the sounds of The Ronnettes, Roy Orbison, Patsy Cline and others, complete with a swooning sincerity — but with a subtle modern touch and  “Do It (In Your Mind)” a jangling guitar pop track that nods at surfer rock, psych rock and The B52s while possessing a punk rock air. And while clearly being a decided change in sonic direction from her time as the frontwoman of Lantern, Louie Louie, which also features Leslie Burnette (organ, vocals); Emily K. Eichelberger (bass, vocals) and her sister Jenna Robb (drums, vocals), it’s the first project in which Emily Robb (guitar vocals) has full artistic and creative control.

“I Want To Dance With You,” is the Philadelphia-based quartet’s second and latest single of 2017 and the song will further cement their growing reputation for a sound that’s heavily influenced by 60s bubblegum pop, blue-eyed soul, R&B, psych rock and rock — while nodding at Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound production techniques; but they manage to pair that with an aching longing to just be near your object of affection. And as result, the song possesses an appropriate swooning, old-school Romanticism.

As the band explains of the recently released video for the song, “It would be false to retroactively assign a concept to the video. Rather than a plot line, the story is told through textures — dark and light, solid and void. We played around with movements and objects to create something weird and mysterious. It was fun pretending to be something else, somewhere else.” And as a result, the video possesses a lush, imagistic, dream-like quality.

Throughout next month and part of June, the members of Louie Louie will be on tour. Check out tour dates below.
