The Chicago,IL-based quartet of YAWN have won over the attention of the blogosphere for a sound that possesses elements of electronica and psych pop that has drawn comparisons to the likes of Animal Collective, Yeasayer and Tame Impala – perhaps because of its hypnotic nature. Although to be fair, when I heard “Wasting Waiting,” the first single from the band’s latest effort Love Chills, I immediately thought of Violens remarkable Amoral.
“Flytrap” the album’s latest single (and video) continues the band’s reputation for meshing psych pop with electronica, rock and on this song a subtle bit of dubstep but the song manages to have a dark and menacing undertone, right beneath the initial breeziness of the material. (It shouldn’t be surprising that the official video is equally surreal and at times kind of dark.)
