The Echo Friendly consist of the off and on couple Jake Rabinbach (guitar and vocals) and Shannon Esper (vocals). Their debut full-length effort is naturally inspired by their relationship, as the material chronicles their own complicated and often ambiguous relationship — the sort of friendship fraught with tension and second-guessing over how difficult it can seem to be when you try to be close to someone with whom you used to be much closer, as well as the inherent uncertainty behind most relationships.
The duo’s latest single “Fuck It Whatever,” is about loving through difficult circumstances, as both Rabinbach and Esper have admitted in interviews – and it’s probably the true test of any relationship. including the apocalypse, as the official video for the song portrays. And interestingly enough, the video also manages to convey how difficult it can be to truly connect with the person you could be the most inmate with.
The video is surreal and has a bit of dark, Samuel Beckett-like humor throughout and it actually suits the song perfectly.
