Throwback: DMX Performs “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”

There are a few annual traditions in the JOVM world that are very dear to me: The annual postings of John Lennon‘s “Happy Christmas (War Is Over),Run DMC‘s “Christmas in Hollis,” and  DMX performing “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer” at Power 105.1

We all have an Earl Simmons in our lives. Sometimes that Earl is a family friend or a friend; most often that Earl is someone we’re related to. And sometimes we’re the Earl Simmons of our families. DMX reminds me of three cousins on my mother’s side of the family — and I think for me, that’s why I have such deep empathy for him.

Simmons’ life was very troubled, but this Power 105.1 interview was a moment of levity, joy, playfulness and Christmas spirit. Long Live Dark Man X! Long live Earl Simmons!

This year was a difficult and uneasy year for many of you. I’m hoping that the holiday season will be gentle, peaceful and joyous for you and your loved ones. And may 2026 be kinder, fruitful, peaceful, productive and offer you everything you need and desire.
